Knights hand Worcester their first defeat of the season with stunning win at Castle Park!

Doncaster Knights defeated the reigning champions 36-27 in a thriller at Castle Park!

Doncaster started the game well and worked really hard to build up to the line. A well-executed lineout allowed Ben Sugars to drive over the line and put the first points on the board. Curtis added the conversion. 7-0.

The first half of the game was end-to-end, with Worcester answering back just moments later. This time, it was their driving maul that powered them over the line. 7-5.

Our star man Penaia Tagutu soon lit up the Castle with some of his brilliance. Kieran Wilkinson put up a contestable kick, and Semesa Rokoduguni brilliantly kept possession by getting underneath it. The backline whipped the ball out quickly to Tagutu, who powered his way up the wing, pushing off the final defender. Curtis added the conversion again. 14-5.

Two tries for the visitors then followed. Firstly, their forwards showed great strength to power the ball over the line, before moments later they utilised their backline to move quick ball out to Garside on the wing. 14-17.

Tagutu kept the scores close, however, as after a solid lineout, Ollie Fox popped the ball back inside to the winger, who weaved his way around the Worcester defence to claim his second of the game. 19-17.

The visitors continued to stay in the fight as Tim Anstee powered over. 19-22. The Knights worked well to end the half on a positive note, with Tom Curtis slotting three points from the halfway line.

Half-time score: 22-22.

Doncaster controlled the second half really well, starting with a lovely try from Zach Kerr, who drove through contact and stretched the ball over the line. Curtis added the conversion again. 29-22.

The next 10 minutes of the game remained tight, with a couple of scrum penalties keeping Doncaster in the fight.

Worcester then scored what would be their final try of the game as they moved the ball wide and Garside impressed again to carry up the edge. He popped it back inside to Josh Bassett, who dotted down. 29-27.

With the Knights just edging ahead thanks to Curtis' solid kicking off the tee, Veainu then sealed the deal with a final try. It was Alex Dolly who set up the score, putting in a clever little grubber up the wing, which was chased, gathered and scored by Veainu.

Curtis finished the day with a final conversion.
